This 1959 release failed to make the UK chart, a year later Don Costa would have his only UK hit with "Never on A Sunday".

So much you can do with a song. In its own way this take is as stirring and eerie as the Johnny Cash original. The Ray Conniff aggregation does a stunning uptempo version.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid we had a 78 of the Johnny Cash original, and a copy of "Ballad Of A Teenage Queen" neither of these songs charted in the UK but my uncle had heard them both played on Radio Luxembourg,he said it was only there or on American Forces Network that you got to hear any rock n roll type records.
ReplyDeleteBoth songs you mentioned are among Cash's best, especially "Walk The Line" which is so sparse and essential and it's so remarkable to hear a man (presumably truthfully) "confessing" to fidelity!
